Deutsche Schule Pretoria wins First Prize in Berlin!

On Tuesday 10 May 2016 the prize giving of the competition “Schüler bauen Brücken” (Learners Build Bridges) took place in Berlin. The Third prize went to the Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule Cairo, second in the competition was the Deutsche Schule Washington D.C. and as winners, the Deutsche Schule Pretoria was called to the stage.

There to accept this prestigious prize was headmaster Mr Norbert Klevenz, Mrs Rhona Breytenbach, who was responsible for the video production, Mr Warren Markley, organiser of the Robotics programme at the school,  Mr Wolfgang Selzer, Chairman of the DSP Governing Body and 4 Robotics learners.

The main speaker and award presenter was the German Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Mr Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In the fifth round of the competition 43 schools from abroad competed for the prize.

Since 2007 the organisation “Commerce and Industry” has been trying, by way of the competition, to bring the German Schools Abroad to the foreground and into the limelight of politics and industries.

The competition has resulted in many new projects at the schools. Impulses help furthering the development of the network of the German Schools Abroad were created by these projects. Furthermore, good cooperation between the German Chamber of Commerce abroad and local industries, was started in this manner.
